New Year or Oshogatsu is the most important holiday period in Japan. Many people visit a shrine or temple during the first few days of January to pray for a fortunate year ahead. A variety of festivities is held to celebrate the New Year and the dance performed by shishi (an imaginary creature resembling a lion) is considered particularly auspicious. Shishi’s gesture of biting the head of a person is to cut off evil spirits and start a year afresh. We wish you a Prosperous, Healthy and extremely Happy, HAPPY NEW YEAR 2019!
